The Indian Government has been actively formulating policies and promoting projects to drive the country towards a circular economy. It encourages the construction industry to use alternative energy sources like solar and wind power and reuse plastic and municipal waste. It also supports companies that facilitate waste reduction and reuse by offering subsidies. The recycling rate currently stands at only 18 percent, well below the global average of 35 percent. The Government aims to reach global levels and is imposing stringent policies for addressing the issues on waste management.
The Construction Industry can contribute towards a circular economy through the following methods:
- Facilitating processing of construction & demolition waste
- biomining by screening, classification, log washing, etc.
